Purpose
The Fluor Foundation Job Corps Scholarship
Program was established in 2003 to provide renewable scholarships to Job
Corps graduates from DEL-JEN operated Centers pursuing a post-secondary
undergraduate degree, preparing them for successful careers.
Scholarships are renewable for up to three
years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever comes first.
Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a
full-time course of study and continuation of the program by The Fluor
Foundation.
New for
2010
The program will fund up to five new,
renewable scholarships for $5,000 each.
Students will be asked to sign a
"partnership agreement" with the Center and Fluor Foundation which
outlines our relationship and responsibilities.
Student recipients may also receive ongoing
mentorship opportunities through the Job Corps Centers. Awards are
for undergraduate study only.
Elibility
To be eligible to apply, students must be
current Job Corps students in good standing or recent graduates
(within one year Career Transition Period as established by Job Corps)
of one of the following DEL-JEN operated Centers at the time of
application:
1.
Albuquerque Job Corps Center, Albuquerque, NM
2.
Gainesville Job Corps Center, Gainesville, FL
3.
Kittrell Job Corps Center, Kittrell, NC
4.
Mississippi Job Corps Center, Crystal Springs, MS
School
Requirements
Eligible
students must have a high school diploma or GED and be assessed by
Job Corps Center staff as having the capability to benefit from
postsecondary education.
Applicants
must be enrolled or planning to attend a career technical training
school,
community college, university, or other post-secondary institution of
higher learning.
Application
Interested
students must complete the application and submit it along with a
current,
complete transcript of grades from any educational institution they have
attended either immediately prior to enrollment in Job Corps and/or
since graduation from the Job Corps Center.
Online
transcripts must display student name, school name, grade, and credit
hours
earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. This
material must
be submitted directly to Job Corps Center staff or mailed to the
appropriate Job Corps Center by postmarked deadline April 15, 2010.
Since
part of the application requires information regarding the postsecondary
school
the applicant plans to attend, applicants
should be in the process of applying to the schools of their choice
prior to submitting the scholarship application.
Applicants
are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information.
Applications
are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all
questions
as completely as possible.
Incomplete
applications will not be evaluated. All information received is
considered
confidential and is reviewed only by Job Corps Center staff and
Scholarship Management Services.
Selection
of Finalists and Recipients
Scholarship
recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated
leadership and participation in Job Corps Center, school, and community
activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations,
unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal
completed by the Job Corps Center Director.
Selection
of three finalists for each of the four Centers will be determined by
Job Corp
Directors by April 15, 2010.
Finalists’
applications will be forwarded to Scholarship Management Services who
will
select recipients. In no instance does any officer or employee of The
Fluor Foundation, Fluor Corporation, or DEL-JEN play a part in the final
selection.
All
applicants agree to accept the decisions as final.
Applicants
will be notified in June, 2010. Not all applicants to the program will
be selected
as recipients, but students may re-apply to the program each year they
meet eligibility requirements.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship Management Services processes
Fluor Foundation Job Corps scholarship payments on behalf The Fluor
Foundation. Payments are made in two equal installments on August
15th and December 30th. Checks are mailed to
each recipient's mailing address and are made payable to the student's
school.
Obligations
Recipients have no obligation to The Fluor Foundation. They are,
however, required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any
changes in email address, mailing address, telephone number, school
enrollment, or other relevant information - and to send a complete
transcript when requested.
Revisions
The Fluor Foundation reserves the right to
review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to
make changes at any time including termination of the program.
