Summary
Responsible
for file server operating systems and associated software
applications.
Provide
system-level support of multi-user operating systems, hardware
and software tools, including installation, configuration, maintenance,
and end user support of these systems.
Identify
alternatives for optimizing computer resources.
Primary
Responsibilities
1. Collect information to analyze
and evaluate existing or proposed systems
or proposed business procedures.
2. Research, plan, install,
configure, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade
operating systems.
3. Research, plan, install,
configure, troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade
hardware and software interfaces with the operating system
4. Prepare detailed flow charts and
diagrams outlining systems capabilities
and processes.
5. Assist other departments with
report writing services
6. Research and recommend hardware
and software development,
purchase, and use.
7. Troubleshoot and resolve
hardware, software, and connectivity problems,
including user access and component configuration.
8. Select among authorized
procedures and seek assistance when
guidelines are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or when
unanticipated problems arise.
9. Record and maintain hardware and
software inventories, site and/or
server licensing, and user access and security.
10. Work as a team member with other
technical staff, such as networking
to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.
11. Write and maintain system
documentation.
12. Conduct technical research on
system upgrades to determine feasibility,
cost, time required, and compatibility with current system.
13. Maintain confidentiality with
regard to the information being processed,
stored or accessed by the network. Investigate user problems and
needs, identify their source, and determine possible solutions.
14. Analyze user project proposals
to include identifying potential problem
areas and recommend optimum approaches for project path.
15. Participate in the development, implementation, installation,
and testing of applications software.
16. Contribute through code/algorithm development and other means,
for the development of tools and interfaces between application programs
and for the development of debugging programs.
17. Provide system level support for
computer software and classroom
computer equipment used to conduct workshops.
18. Participate in the development
of training materials and assist in
conducting training and workshops in parallel processing and use of
large
computer systems.
19. Review the suitability of
internal control design
20. Conduct audit testing of
specified area and identify reportable issues
and dimension of risk.
21. Determine compliance with
policies and procedures.
22. Verbally communicate findings to
management and
draft comprehensive and complete report of audit area.
23. Demonstrates an excellent safety
behaviors and attitude,
follows policies and rules.
24. Recognizes and promotes hazard
reporting and ensures effective
safety reporting.
25. Document system problems and
resolutions for future reference.
26. Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
1. Assist personnel of other
departments as a technology resource.
2. Provide on-the-job training
to new department staff members.
3. Provide software
orientation and training to new company staff.
Knowledge
and Skill Requirements
1.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Reflecting basic Reading,
Writing and Arithmetic skills.
2. At least four years
experience in computer programming and/or
systems analysis experience required.
3. Bachelor’s Degree in
Information Systems or related field Preferred.
4. Knowledge of company
supported hardware, software and operating
systems to include configuration and connectivity.
5. Ability to investigate and
analyze information and to draw conclusions.
6. Ability to plan, implement,
test, and troubleshoot system software.
7. Ability to develop systems
solutions for operational problems.
8. Knowledge of computer flow
charts and of programming logic and
codes.
9. Ability to determine
computer problems and to coordinate hardware
and/or software solutions.
10. Ability to communicate technical guidance and instruction to
users
on the use of PC and/or mainframe applications and systems.
11. Ability to write technical
instructions in the use of programs
and/or program modifications.
12. Knowledge of computer
security procedures and protocol.
13. Knowledge of federal
copyright laws as they pertain to the use of
computer software. Ability to determine the nature of computer hardware
and systems software problems, and to communicate technical guidance and
information to users.
14. Ability to learn and
support new hardware, software and operating
systems.
15. Work with users requires
interpersonal skills.
Working
Conditions
Responsibilities
may require evening and weekend work in response to
needs of the systems being supported.
Responsibilities
require travel to job sites around the world to support
various systems.
Working
conditions are normal for an office environment. Work
requires extensive work using a computer.
Domestic
and international travel is required.
